Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins Boycotts KFC
Stephan Jenkins is the latest celebrity to speak up for chickens by pledging to boycott KFC. The Third Eye Blind frontman recently signed our petition against the fast-food giant because he wants to do his part to help end the suffering of chickens at the hands of KFC's suppliers.
Each year, nearly 1 billion chickens are killed for KFC. Many are abused by workers who have been documented kicking, throwing, stomping, and slamming live birds into walls. Others have been caught ripping live birds apart and spitting tobacco into chickens' eyes before they are killed, battered, and sold by the bucketful at KFC restaurants. The things that KFC's suppliers do to these gentle, intelligent birds could result in felony cruelty-to-animals charges if dogs and cats were the victims.
Chickens are crammed by the tens of thousands into filthy, windowless sheds in which each bird lives in a space that's roughly the size of a sheet of paper. The birds are pumped full of drugs until they become so large that their bodies aren't able to support their weight, resulting in crippled birds who suffer broken bones. At the slaughterhouse, chickens are hung upside down, their throats are cut, and they're dropped in tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious.
We've asked KFC to make simple changes to improve the lives of these birds, but so far in the U.S. our requests have been ignored. So, we've enlisted the help of Jenkins and a host of other musicians and celebrities such as The Pixies' Frank Black and Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin from Smashing Pumpkins, but we need your help too. Please follow their lead and pledge to boycott KFC.
Please be sure to watch Pamela Anderson's KFC exposé video below so you can see for yourself exactly what birds abused and killed for KFC's restaurants are forced to endure before they become someone's meal.
